Most visitors will never tell you why they left your website. They simply leave. These ten usability mistakes are the ones we find most often during UX audits, and each is fixable.
1. Vague headlines
If a visitor cannot tell what you do within five seconds, they will go back to search results. Say clearly what you offer and who it is for.
2. Too many calls to action
When everything is highlighted, nothing is. Choose one primary action per page and make it obvious.
3. Slow pages
Heavy images and unnecessary scripts cost you visitors, especially on mobile data. Optimise images and remove what you do not need.
4. Long, demanding forms
Ask only for what you need to start the conversation. Every extra field reduces completion rates.
5. Poor mobile navigation
Menus that are hard to tap or hide important pages frustrate mobile users, who are often the majority.
6. Low contrast text
Light grey text on white looks elegant in a mock-up but is hard to read in sunlight and fails accessibility guidelines.
7. No social proof
Testimonials, case studies and client logos reassure visitors that others have trusted you successfully.
8. Hidden pricing information
You do not need exact prices, but ranges or starting prices help visitors qualify themselves.
9. Unclear error messages
"Invalid input" helps nobody. Explain what went wrong and how to fix it, next to the field.
10. Ignoring accessibility
Keyboard navigation, focus states, alt text and proper labels make your site usable for everyone — and usually improve SEO too.
